The Best Budget Friendly Eats in Waikiki, Hawaii

Welcome to Waikiki!

Last year, we embarked on an unforgettable journey from Phoenix to Waikiki, Hawaii, eager to explore the breathtaking beauty of the islands. As we boarded our Hawaiian Airlines direct flight, we couldn’t contain our excitement. Knowing that we would soon be surrounded by the stunning landscapes and warm, welcoming culture that Hawaii is famous for.

Upon arrival, we made our way to Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, one of the most beautiful places in Hawaii, and our home for the duration of our stay. With its pristine white sand beaches, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and swaying palm trees, Waikiki Beach exceeded all our expectations.

Waikiki offers a range of dining options to suit various budgets. Whether you’re looking for local Hawaiian cuisine or international flavors, several budget-friendly eateries in Waikiki provide delicious meals without breaking the bank. Here are some of the best Waikiki cheap eats:

Welcome to Waikiki!

#1 Duke’s Breakfast Buffet

2335 Kalākaua Ave #116, Honolulu, HI 96815

I had the pleasure of experiencing the breakfast buffet at Duke’s Waikiki, and I must say it was a delightful culinary journey. From the moment I stepped into the restaurant, I was greeted with warm Hawaiian hospitality and a charming beachfront ambiance. The stunning views of Waikiki Beach added an extra touch of beauty to the dining experience.

The breakfast buffet at Duke’s Waikiki exceeded my expectations in terms of variety and quality. There was an impressive spread of both traditional and Hawaiian-inspired dishes, ensuring there was something to please every palate. From fresh tropical fruits and pastries to made-to-order omelets and local specialties, the options seemed endless. One highlight of the buffet was the selection of freshly baked goods. The pastries were delectable, with flaky croissants and mouthwatering muffins stealing the show. The omelet station allowed guests to customize their own omelets with a variety of fillings, creating a personalized breakfast delight.

The service at Duke’s Waikiki was exceptional throughout my visit. The staff was attentive, friendly, and eager to assist with any requests. They made sure that guests felt welcome and taken care of, adding to the overall enjoyable experience.

While the breakfast buffet at Duke’s Waikiki may come at a higher price point, $25.00 per person, the quality and variety of the offerings make it worth every penny. The combination of delicious food, picturesque views, and exceptional service creates a memorable breakfast experience. Check their full menu here.

#2 Marugame Udon

2310 Kūhiō Ave., Honolulu, HI 96815

This popular spot serves authentic Japanese udon noodles at affordable prices. The cafeteria-style setup allows you to choose from various toppings and tempura options to customize your meal. The menu at Marugame Udon, the name changed from Marukame Udon to Marugame, is a delight for udon enthusiasts. The variety of udon bowls and toppings available is impressive, ensuring that there is something to suit every taste. From traditional favorites starting from $8.50 to unique and creative combinations, the options are plentiful.

One aspect that caught my attention was the made-to-order concept. The interactive experience of watching the skilled chefs hand-make the udon noodles right in front of you adds a level of authenticity and freshness to the dining experience. The noodles themselves are cooked to perfection, with a satisfying chewy texture that pairs perfectly with the flavorful broths.

Speaking of broths, Marugame Udon Hawaii offers a range of choices, from classic dashi-based broths to rich and savory options like beef and curry. Each broth is thoughtfully prepared, allowing the flavors to shine through and complement the noodles and toppings. The variety of toppings available at Marugame Udon adds another layer of enjoyment to the meal. From tempura to thinly sliced beef, vegetables, and even soft-boiled eggs, there is no shortage of options to customize and enhance your udon bowl. The freshness and quality of the ingredients are evident in each bite.

They also offer a selection of sides and appetizers that are worth trying. From crispy tempura to flavorful gyoza, these dishes provide a perfect accompaniment to the main attraction. Check the full menu here.

#3 Surf N Turf Tacos

2310 Kūhiō Ave., Honolulu, HI 96815

During our trip, we stumbled upon Surf N Turf Tacos while making our way back to the hotel from a scuba shop nearby. If you’re in the mood for no-frills, the best Oahu Mexican food, this is the place to go. The food here is undeniably tasty, although the price point may be a bit higher considering the no-frills concept. However, given its central and convenient location, it’s worth the splurge. The portion sizes are reasonable, ensuring you’ll leave satisfied. Located just north of the Waikiki Beach area on Kuhio, it’s a decent spot to enjoy relatively inexpensive Mexican cuisine.

While the vegetarian taco fell short of expectations, as it mainly consisted of vegetables without any additional fillings like tofu, the quesadilla was quite good. The tacos were the highlight for me, with fantastic flavors in both the fresh fried shrimp and kalbi steak options. I highly recommend this place for a quick and simple lunch.

Although the topping selections may be basic, the quality of the meats used in the tacos is exceptional. If you find yourself in Waikiki, make sure to give Surf N Turf Tacos a try. It’s a must-visit for those craving delicious Mexican food in a casual setting. This small business does not have a website but you can check the menu on Google Maps or UberEats.
